This month we conducted a fun art project for our kindergarten students which focused on the topic ‘My Family’. This project had significant educational and developmental outcomes for the children. First and foremost, it helped them to explore their own family dynamics and fostered a sense of identity and belonging. By sharing their stories, they learned more about who they are and what makes their family special. They drew and coloured their family portrait, made photo frames out of popsicle sticks, stuck their family picture and expressed their feelings about each family member. This medium allowed us to communicate with our children’s emotions and enhance their emotional intelligence. It was so wonderful to see how unique each family was. The students also shared their artwork with each other. This encouraged them to practice their communication skills and made them better at expressing themselves and listening to others. In addition to these important skills, the project helped our children to develop their creative abilities which in turn improved their fine motor skills and allowed their creativity to shine.
